To grant assistance to necessitous Widows and Orphans of Scottish Commercial Travellers

The fund exists to provide financial assistance to widows/widowers and orphans of Scottish Commercial Travellers in financial need, and it's associated Samaritan Fund is also available for grants of assistance to both widows/widowers and orphans of Scottish Commercial Travellers and also to Scottish Commercial Travellers themselves in cases of exceptional need.

Assistance from the Benevolent Fund takes the form of quarterly financial grants and assistance from the Samaritan Fund takes the form of single grant up to a maximum of £100.

The notes following outline the criteria for qualifying to make an application for grant and the address for submission of applications. It must be noted that each application will be judged on its own merits and awards of grant are at the absolute discretion of the Fund's Directors and no award of Grant can be assumed irrespective of the circumstances of the applicant.

Notes:

The words "Scottish Commercial Traveller", used in connection with the entitlement to apply for a grant are subject to the undernoted definition, A Scottish Commercial Traveller is a person who has resided in Scotland and followed his/her vocation there.

A Commercial Traveller shall be defined as any individual who has acted as an agent or representative, whether employed or self employed, for a principal selling a product or service, to industrial, wholesale or retail businesses, excepting any form of selling to the general public, the duration of which shall be not less than 5 years in aggregate, such time limit to be subject to the discretion of the directors of the fund from time to time, whose decision shall be binding. The Directors will reserve the right to make such enquiries into the prior employment or self employment

The application should include the name, age and address of the applicant, details of the circumstances giving rise to the application, and the relevant employment history of the applicant, or the applicant’s spouse or parent
